Purple Lite Reviews

Post by Lilmike14 »

Purple Lite.

It's hard to put into words just how much I adore this maze.

It's rated at a difficulty of 40/100, but personally I'd put it at 45/100 alongside the Black Lite. They're both roughly the same difficulty, but in slightly different ways.

It's definitely more of a challenge than the other 3 intro Lites combined. I spent 25 minutes without a map to begin with, then a further 3 hours 10 minutes mapping before I got it open. It is absolutely possible to do this without a map, and the solve will be just as, if not more, rewarding than with a map.

There was one particular area that took me a significant amount of time to get correct.
I'm now incredibly familiar with the first half of the maze, and the trap lines feel like a home away from home.

I spent a lot of time, failing and starting over, more times than I cared to count. Solving the Purple was a process I truly enjoyed, because of this, I stopped counting somewhere after 14 clicks and just let myself revel in the journey.
And what a journey it was!

It is incredibly difficult to do a write up on the Purple without falling into spoiler territory.

I truly believe that Chris, looked back at his previous creation(s?) and thought to himself "This is amazing, but what if it was better?".
Then proceeded to distil the essence of the maze(s) and use that essence to create the Purple Lite.
I do hope to speak with Chris and ask him about the thought process and choices that went into the Purple, this is my favourite of the Lites so far and I'd love to learn more about it.

It's hard to put into words what I like about it, it's not quite nostalgia. It's more like meeting with an old friend. You've both aged and changed over the years. But during the catchup you get to know one another once again and rediscover the reason you're friends in the first place.

All this to say, I think at this level of difficulty, the Purple maze is perfect. I wouldn't change a single thing about it.

If you were to tell me I could keep one of the lites I've solved so far. It would without question, be Purple.
At a fundamental level, this is what Revomaze is.

The Purple has taken place in my top 3 Revomazes solved so far.

And if you plan on getting a single maze from the intro set, Purple is the one to go for.

Now for one incredibly minor inconvenience, and one thing I'll recommend to Chris & Rachel tomorrow.

My miniscule inconvenience is that the maze was a little bit rough to start with, a little bit of a stutter in its movements.
Chris mentioned in his e-mail to me that this would be the case while the O rings bed in.
True to his word, it was only a short time period, a few minutes at most. After that, they maze became buttery smooth to use and I had no problems operating it whatsoever.
I debated on putting this inconvenience in the review or not, but it seemed right to do so. It's not an issue in anyway and soon goes away.

Now for my recommendation.
I'd love to have a line, or a triangle or some sort of indicator engraved into the edge of the sleeve, just before the knurling on the core, or both.
Purely to make easier for the people who like to map.

On the classics you could use the serial number, or even the edges of the nut as a reference to the dot on the sleeve, but the lites lack this simple little feature and I'd love to see it one day.
