Ok looks like the high shipping cost to the USA are because you get a 5 day express service,
They have also offered a cheaper comparable with others @£30 with longer shipping times.
Premium service at premium price or economic service at a reasonable price.
Plus no VAT for you guys!
Now the question is who wants to wait and save £15?

Re: Pyro Puzzles
I talked to Steve, and this is what he had to say about shipping costs.
Steve Miller wrote:The shipping is an express service, hence the expense.
As you don't have to pay the £30 tax, the whole deal is cheaper than the cheapest European option!
There are cheaper options, but these require a great deal of additional time and effort on my part and I'm currently up to my eyeballs getting other orders out.
If you don't mind waiting until next week, I can arrange shipping for £25 (I assume you're in the USA).
Drop me a line via Contact@LiveActionFX.Com so I have a message from you outside of the Pyro Puzzles system, so it doesn't get lost in amongst the other orders, then we can sort something out.

Re: Pyro Puzzles
Steve didn't give the £25 option in the forum discussion. I'm not asking him to eat shipping or handling costs(and I hope Chris isn't with his shipping prices), but $69 (today's exchange rate) to ship to the US seems pretty high. My Copper shipped from Revo HQ on a Friday, Received in San Francisco on Monday, and an attempt to deliver to me on Thursday, and Revo charged me £19.20 (~$29.50 usd). (Customs is normally where my revos spend most of their transit time, this was a quick layover)
If the puzzles are good, the cost won't seem too painful, but I'll be asking for the cheapest shipping on any future puzzles. I have the patience to wait. Besides, it hurts to spend that much of my puzzle budget on shipping, and the wife no likey.
Why are all the puzzle makers in the UK??? Probably cost twice as much if made here in the states!

Re: Pyro Puzzles
I ordered one.. I don't know why, but I did. Even with the huge shipping cost to the US.. I guess you have to support the puzzle makers around the world or our little hobby wouldn't exist..

Re: Pyro Puzzles
Does anyone have information about the workings of this puzzle?
The video on the website has 6 seconds of turning the cone on the base and 3+ minutes of "fireworks".
That combined with the 9 ciphers for sale @ 20 pounds each make me wonder if the mechanical nature of this puzzle borders on superfluous.

Re: Pyro Puzzles
Steve talks about pricing the "help" high to discourage people from buying them.
But I too am hoping that one of those individuals, who picked one up a while back in person from Steve, will come forward with a complete review.
Otherwise, I'm sure some of the folks who live in the UK, who ordered today, will have theirs early next week, and maybe they will give us a review.

I think this just made my decision. I want a mechanical puzzle not something I need to pay for clues to solve.vcif wrote:Does anyone have information about the workings of this puzzle?

From Steve, the maker...03SVTCobra wrote: I think this just made my decision. I want a mechanical puzzle not something I need to pay for clues to solve.
"So you're having trouble decoding the cryptic clues for the 'Fire' Puzzle. If it was easy it wouldn't be any fun now would it? You could pay and download the cypher key, but I don't want you to do that! I consider downloading the clues to be cheating, that's why I've made it so expensive. You will get much more out of the solving experience if you put in the time and effort to solve the clues yourself, at the end you should get a real sense of achievement.
Take a look at the other clue download options you'll find a few hints on how to decode the clues - I hope these help you solve the clues without cheating. If you decide to buy and download the Cypher Keys, then I will happily take your money, but I would much rather you didn't take this path. If you do decide to cheat then you must hang your head in shame. Good luck with your solving - You'll find it so much more rewarding, doing it the hard way. PLEASE DON'T BUY/DOWNLOAD"

Re: Pyro Puzzles
I'm not going to write a full review here and now, but I feel I should chime in and say that in my opinion the Fire is well worth the price tag.
The cyphers can be solved by anyone with some patience (I managed it, and actually enjoyed working them out...which is very unlike me). And while I believe that Fire could be solved without them, some of the steps would be very difficult to find.
In terms of build quality they are spot on. Every aspect of the 'function' side of things works perfectly, and due to the design it would be very difficult to damage through normal use. And on the 'form' side of things, it is beautifully anodised and finished, inside and out.
I can't say as much as I want to without giving anything away, but if anyone was looking for a recommendation, and if you believe my opinion is worth listening to, then go and buy a copy.
