Re: R2 Cosmic Series - Available to buy

Post by robbaylis79 »

Although im not entirely with the idea of this voyager package at the moment. I am tempted to buy it still.
I have 1 thing that is playing on my mind though.
If the voyager package is available to buy to 100 people, then does this mean any limited & special edition R2 puzzles will have a minimum of 100 made?
I would think that this would have to be the case. If not and there were some of which only a few were made, then alot of the people buying this package will still loose out as it will be more of a 1st come 1st serve basis.
I think Ceres and Pluto will be available to all voyagers, as was the gold to all who brought the collectors set.
What about the Makemake, Eris and Haumea though? Will everybody that paid for the voyager status each be able to buy this puzzle if they all choose to do so?

Ive emailed Joseph to see if he knows the answer, but if anyone already has any knowledge on this, I think its an important question to be answered
black obs v1
Blue Ob v2 = Opened
Bronze Ex = Opened
Orange Ex = Opened
Silver Ex = Opened 35-40 hours
Lime = In preparation...
Titanium = Opened 6/7 hours (Loved that final run)
Copper = On its way...

I think there are still a few things that Chris/Joe needs to iron out with this Voyager Status, like serial numbers, limited quantities and probably more, that haven't been spoken of yet.

I don't think anyone here has any more knowledge than the next person, so your best bet is to ask Joe and then post the answers here (if Joe doesn't first!!) :D

There were some discussions a while ago regarding serial numbers on new products... I suspect that serial numbers may disappear from now on... just one less thing to worry about :)

I hope not. They do add collectable value to these expensive puzzles.

Interesting.
It was actually me and a number of other collectors who suggested not to bother with serial numbers since they caused way more hassle than they're worth - there were cases of duplicate numbers, people wanting numbered sets that had already seen single ones sold, people wanting high serial numbers that were way off being produced, having to have numbers specially engraved by hand when replacement cores were needed, people being upset when replacement numbers couldn't be done due to the manual engraver being out of action... which as it happens is why I'm still waiting for my gold #11 SE and why I'm holding off sending my silver #11 SE back for inspection (again)... because I know it won't be coming back anytime soon unless I'm happy with having a different number... which I'm not.

As a collector, having serials is neat. However, I rather have the puzzles without serials so that Chris can get on with making puzzles rather than having to worry about who has what number.

For the streamline affect mentioned above... I agree.

Serial numbers are cool! But entirely unnecessary.

That and my numbers are entirely random anyways! :P

In general, individual numbering of any collectable really increases the collectability of it. This is typical for things beyond just these puzzles.

For these, the ability to have matching numbers within the set is/was very cool. So cool that I have every #5 RevoMaze except for one and I have offered the owner of that specific #5 RevoMaze $500 USD for it but he wouldn't budge. After I finish my current real estate transaction (I'm still selling the house I moved out of), I will probably attempt to buy it again with a bigger offer.

Of course if these weren't numbered I wouldn't bother with such an expense.

When the serial numbers were also the build numbers they did have more meaning. The importance dropped some when people started requesting high numbers thus leaving gaps or having them produced out of order. But the numbers still represent an unique identifier for each puzzle. It is the unique identifier that is important to some collectors.

No doubt.

I think its a pretty cool feature. R2 would be EVEN MORE collectable if they were to cap it at 100 (the in stock # the "available" started at) and leave the non-voyager puzzles blank.

As seems with everything... can't always win / please everyone no matter how hard you try! :P

I think the serial numbers kinda went a bit awol when the lime came out and people were asking for silly serial numbers, like the infinity symbol and Graham's AFKAN (which isn't even a number). Having the serial is half the point of owning an expensive limited edition puzzle, IMO.

So I think what Chris has done with the Voyager number is a great idea. That way people who want them engraved, ie. buy the Voyager Status, get a number engraved and the others don't, therefore cutting the engraving quantity. Also you'll definitely end up with your complete number set at the end (provided you buy them all!!) as that number is your's solely.
