I started out with some $1-$3 wood puzzles from Hong Kong. My wife shrugged. Then it was some puzzle boxes from Bits n Pieces. She thought they were interesting. Then it was Vinco, and she thought they were impressive, but she was beginning to wonder if I had a problem. Then it was Makishi's puzzle boxes and of course someone named Wil Strijbos, and she said "they cost how much?!!!" I haven't broken the news about the CE set!

After about 5 hours of playing with it and some considerable words of support from a few forum members I have now solved the First Box! :D Not what I expected and I now want to have fun exploring the best method to open it consistently. Wonderful design and as always with Wil, you get what you pay for in terms of quality and build.

Nicely done Nigel! :)

It took me a few solves and some hard staring into it to work out how to solve it consistantly. It can be opened in seconds with the right method though.

...Wil keeps telling me I'm not solving it properly! - but it works, quickly and consistently... so I don't mind too much...

Hmm...would be interesting to see a solution sheet from Wil then.

I can't get how some of you have found 'multiple' ways of solving it! :? I have found one quick and easy way and one 'lucky' way. I will have to compare notes with someone soon! ;)

So Allard, if you're not opening it properly, should we expect a V2 First Box with the unintended solution removed?

...he got his own back on me over the weekend - I was visitng James Dalgety who fished out an original First Box and I failed to open it (any method!) - and when I mentioned that to Wil, he told me it was becasue I wasn't opening it right! (He may be winding me up, but I'm not certain...)

[...and there may be a small change to New First Box to make solving the puzzle a happier event... ;) Don't ask, I won't tell!]
