Echoes from the past?

This is by no means a judgement on the Gold or Chris but what with having to solve a seamingly impossible set of clues before you could attempt the puzzle gave me a few flashbacks to the Sonic Warp puzzles. I know Chris was involved somewhat in the design stage of one or more of them..... Better get back to algorithm solving..!!!?
Can we have the next one without the confusion please Chris ..lol!

It is a valid puzzling type, just not everyone's cup of energy drink, I think that is where the comparison ends. Chris will learn.
