A simple question from a french guy

Post by Dafe »

Anglais isnt my native language so I've got a simple question: what's the plating issue ppl talk about. I've try to translate the word (platter) but it's not what I was looking for.

Nearest french term I could find for the process, using google translate, would be galvanoplastie. One type of metal is being plated on another, if I understand the process correctly.

Because the inside metal is a soft metal and the nickel coat makes it stronger and dents less. I hope that works.

Plating also keeps the inner metal from oxidation and corrosion. Some metals are very reactive, especially with oxygen. Plating copper with Nickel or Gold is a great way to reduce those unwanted effects. As adamwest said, it also hardens up the outer layer, but that also depends on how the plating was deposited, whether using immersion or electrolytic plating....
