if I hold the revomaze in my left hand and spin the shaft with my right anti clock wise it slips down and I then turn it a very very small amount guiding the spring so it doesnt slip into the trap it then goes in to a gap where i can feel very very small gates but know of them go anywhere this is my dilemma

...shep, sorry mate, sounds like it's working properly and you need to work out what to do next... remember that these aren't meant to be simple puzzles and they should (each) keep you amused for quite a while - if Black's your first one, you're going to face a fairly steep learning curve... Blue and Green are largely orthogonal which made life a little simpler - Black isn't (either of those!)

(Try and) Enjoy!

Shep,

We are in the same dilema, I also (perhaps foolishly) started on the Black Obsession, and it sounds like we're stuck in the same place, ohwell looks like my productivity at work is gonna slip in the new year.

I got this as a present, without having played before

I'm stuck and I can't seem to find out how to map. I am probably being stupid, but I have read the mapping techniques, but can't understand them. So I am mapping it in my head.

I think I am stuck on the third hard bit, not too sure, as the first two haven't been hard. But I have been here for days. I seem to think I get further, then it clicks.

Oh, even though I am stuck, I do enjoy it and just ordered the Green one.

Mapping is ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING with the black. You may have a good time opening it, but you're going to lose out on half the experience if you don't map it. Take a pencil and paper. Try to mimic your movements using the label as a reference on the shaft. The black is more than a puzzle; it's a work of art!

With the Obsessions there isn't any harm in drawing a pencil dot (or several) onto the shaft, then using a pencil and paper just map the movements of the dot you drew on in relation to the dot on the sleeve.

Or you could draw the entire map onto the shaft as you go. :D

After drawing it all on the shaft and tracing in onto paper, I measured it with a tool for measuring lines on maps, I have got 19-20cm into it until it clicks.

That was all mapped in my head too. How much further do you think there is?

Stuck again now.

How do you map the traps?

I mapped it by getting a friend to hold a pencil on a fixed point and me just going as far as I can, so it just draws the route I have taken.
