Forum Etiquette

Please take a small amount of time to look over the forum etiquette list below. In general, it's purpose is not to tell you what you can and can't do, it's just a set of guidelines that will hopefully help the forum run smoother if we all try to take note of them.

  1. Read the forums rules and guidelines before posting for the first time.
  2. Search the other posts to see if your topic is already covered.
  3. Use a meaningful title for your thread. Non-descriptive or misleading titles are likely to be edited to something more useful. Try not to make extra work for the mods ;)
  4. Do not use the forum to promote your product, service or business.
  5. Be civil. Personal differences should be handled through email or Image and not through posts displayed to everyone.
  6. Stay on topic.
  7. Be tolerant of other people's grammar, spelling, and use of slang. Remember, they might not speak English as a first language or have the same amount of education as you.
  8. Do not use abusive or foul language.
  9. Do not double post (post the same message twice in one thread or do two or more successive posts in the same topic) or cross post (place the same message across several forums).
  10. Act in a give and take manner; help others as often as or more than you ask for help. Try to ensure the help you give is factually correct.
  11. Do not use all caps or SHOUT in your posts. In addition, one exclamation point is (often) enough.
  12. When replying to a post, do not quote more from the previous post than you have to.
  13. Do not post new problems on someone else's thread and interrupt a topic of discussion.
  14. Do not use someone else’s thread for a private conversation.
  15. Discussions about illegal activities - whether intellectual property theft or real world theft and drugs - is not allowed.
  16. Watch your sense of humor, posts may be read by people from a variety of backgrounds and ages.
  17. Do not use a huge and annoying signature, a modest signature is fine, moderators may remove large ones anyway.
  18. Do not post any information that you want private. Posts should not contain personal, identifiable information or content embarrassing to others.
  19. Do not post ”empty” or useless responses, such as just ”lol” or ”cool.” Only post responses when you have something to contribute.
  20. Write concisely and do not ramble.
  21. Do not use words like ”urgent” or ”important” in your subject line, be patient.
  22. Do not chastise newbies.

Below are the updated moderation conventions for conversations regarding the puzzles. If you have any questions, feel free to send a private message to myself, an admin, or any of the other moderators.


On Moderation of Puzzle-Related Conversations:
  1. These rules are intended to preserve the fun of discovery in solving the puzzles, but not stifle discussion. Thus discussion about the puzzles is encouraged, but requested to stay within these guidelines.
  2. All decisions to [MODERATE] puzzle-related conversations are final.
  3. General Forums:
    1. Names of sections of the puzzle are allowed, but must be limited to what is on the sales website. No further description is allowed and talking about your experience opening it is discouraged. Posts will be moved to the Registered Forums as appropriate.
    2. Only talk about THAT puzzle within THAT forum. However, this will be treated with some laxity for upper-forums, that is talking about Blue/Green/Bronze in the Silver forum is okay to a limited extent as it applies to the discussion, but no further.
  4. Registered Forums:
    1. If it is listed in the main description of the puzzle on the revomaze.co.uk sales site, you can say it in the forum. (e.g., pool, swamp, rabbit run, not-a-canyon, canyon, etc.; sample uses: "I'm in the swamp! WOW!" "I just got from the castle in to the village!"). Alternative names for these regions are allowed, if they give no more of a clue to what is going on than the officially sanctioned name. (e.g., the motorway is also known as the "not-a-canyon").
    2. Relationship between items within a maze, or between the maze and a clue (e.g., the algorithm - which can be looked at as a giant clue or puzzle in its own right) will be moderated. Except when it is something as simple as "the not-a-canyon is before the swamp". However, "the not-a-canyon is in the swamp" is not allowed.
    3. Rules for a registered forum will become slightly more lax as the puzzle has been around longer, especially if there is no competition, but it will still be enforced so that no spoilers are given and people can enjoy the sense of discovery on an individual basis.
  5. Open Forums:
    1. Anything goes about that specific puzzle, within reason.
    2. However, do not talk about open states of other puzzles that are of greater difficulty and limit discussion of lesser difficulty puzzles as not everyone who has solved the greater difficulty puzzle has necessarily solved the lesser difficulty puzzle.
