As one of you had mentioned, the discoloration of the shaft appears to be from finger oils. this wasnt an issue when i first opened my puzzle because i always washed my hands first. with the continued use by family, alot of the discoloration has disappeared on its own. although the first half inch or so of the shaft is a little more shiney. considering using the vinegar method to bring the shaft back to its original brillance. Thank you to everyone for your input.
Still crankin' on my orange design
Waiting for my red to arrive!
