I've been looking for 'Pandora's Box' made by Pentangle for aaaaages! But now whilst having a skim around the site again I found 'All Hail The King' which is a Marcell Gillen design which I've also heard great things about. So I'll be putting an order in for both of those very soon. :D

Anyone have any experience with the Teraminx that cube4you sells? The link for the puzzle itself is: http://cube4you.com/cube4you-teraminx-n ... p-146.html . Looks like it doesn't come with the decals on so they sell sets: http://cube4you.com/cube4you-teraminx-v ... p-147.html

It's pricy but looks like a lot of fun. I can solve the megaminxes and the 7x7x7 cubes so might be able to handle it... :?

There are 2 different Teraminxes being produced. One from Cube4You (sometimes referred to as manufactured by MHZ) and another one by MF8 (don’t ask me why all these Chinese companies go by acronyms). The MF8 one is far superior is quality then the C4U/MHZ one. But you will probably have to apply the stickers yourself for either of them which can be time consuming. The stickers that come with the MF8 one are rather low quality which is a bummer considering that the puzzle itself is great. You can purchase high quality stickers for it at http://www.cubesmith.com (the C4U/MHZ one comes with cubesmith stickers). I purchased my MF8 Teraminx from http://www.mefferts.com but I can’t access them from work so I don’t know if they still have them in stock or not.

There is some discussion about both of them on the twistypuzzles.com forum at http://twistypuzzles.com/forum/viewtopi ... 15&t=16316

Did anyone play Myst or Riven back in the day? If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch, it was recently released in the iTunes App Store. I was a big fan of them back in the day and am thinking about getting them for my phone.

Oh yes... back in the day I bought a CD ROM for my PC just so that I could play Myst - it absolutely changed the landscape forever - loved it... not sure about playing it on an iPhone - feels like it will be a bit too fiddly... now on an iPad it would be incredible, methinks...

[I bought a collectors edition 10th anniversary set of DVDs of Myst / Riven / Exile a while back and have a copy of Myst for my PSP, but haven't tried it yet ... sad, eh?]

They arrived today. Looking very nice, packaging is good-looking too. They 'feel' larger and more robust/solid than I expected from plastic puzzles.
One is about the size of a rubiks cube, the other is the size of a closed copernisis box.

So these are transparent puzzles, allowing you to see everything inside, right? Not really! Six layers of transparent maze on top of each other, that properly messes up the view! Even 'only' 3 layers (the big one) is tricky.

I am looking forward to a serious and undisturbed attempt at solving them. Not before nor during Christmas, but hopefully before 2011.

I seem to remember it came on 14 or so CD's, just as well DVDs came along, Myst/Riven (don't know about Exile) were ahead of there time in some respects, offering a gilmpse of the sort of true 3D landscapes we now take for granted. In some respects the also harked back to early computer (text-based on cassettes) games.
You know the sort... You're in a room with a high ceiling there is a bookcase along the length of the wall to your right. Books line the shelves from floor to ceiling, in the centre of the room is a single chair, on which is placed a key...
A strange mix really, I doubt we will ever see anything like them again, unless a new technology comes along which takes time to become established (mmm... 3D).

Likewise, I recieved my Xmatix puzzles a couple of days ago, have you spotted the 3D 'X' running through the cube puzzle, I find the cube more of a challenge, because it is difficult to see the middle layers of the puzzle.

I helped start the early negotiations with Cyan to make Uru open source .... Was a big Myst junky before that. Unfortunately, dealing with the company itself and its rabid fundamentalist fan community though was a major turnoff in the end.

Fans and corporate types can really get in the way some times, everyone has an opinion but only 'fans' opinions count! So they believe, I wonder how many good opportunities for development have been ruined by corporate types/fans. Life is too short!

I downloaded the free version of Myst on my phone to try it out and it wasn't too bad. It is a little fiddly like you say paying on the iPhone, but it was still fun. Now on the iPad! That would be a lot of fun. Hopefully they will release it for the iPad and up the resolution on the images.

I might have to try and find my old set of CDs and see if I can give it another whirl. They were a lot of fun back in the day, even though I didn't get very far in the puzzles.
