The first thing I noticed was that the plastic black body and the aluminum black body look really similar. As a matter of fact, if I could remove the RevoToy shaft, I’d play with the concept of switching the shafts. The wonderful thing is that it retains the classy black on gold REVOMAZE sticker on the front. Additionally, the shaft end has been changed. instead of a 7-sided nut and the mostly immovable shelf, the shaft is smooth from end to end and capped with a similar sticker; white with gold dots which look like a flower or starburst [REVOMASTER Update: shaft ends will be gold like the main label with the maze colour R logo].

The initial physical difference is the fact that the puzzle now weighs 1/3 of the weight. As we all know the first physical concept to reckon with when you first feel a RevoMaze is how incredibly heavy it is. Although the weight of the RevoToy is very appropriate for kids and adults alike, I really missed the weight. For a person who gets a RevoToy as their first Revo product, I think the weight is still rather impressive; especially for being 'just plastic'. I'm not sure that the RevoToy is easier, but I will admit I opened it in about 1 minute on my first try. In other words my RevoToy has been solved and is still "click" free.

[RevoRabbit Edit: The body even has the small 'tap' mark that we use to lineup the 'tap' mark on the shaft in the metal RevoMazes. Obviously it isnt used in the RevoToy because the shaft is not removable. I hadn't noticed it before because Chris was sneaky and installed the shaft and label backwards.]

In summary, I am very impressed with this puzzle. I will certainly be collecting the entire set of RevoToys. This I think will be particularly imperative for enthusiasts for 2 reasons. First of all, I have allowed a lot of people to try my puzzles and as a collectible item, they have started to develop 'character' however, I’d rather them be pristine.

Secondly, kids take after adults and if you or someone you know is a puzzle lover, chances are there’s a kid watching that’s even more interested in your puzzles that you are. So let them have a go at the RevoToy. If 1 RevoToy is all you ever buy, than I think you have shared your joy of puzzling with others and that is a gift few ever get. Let’s face it; most of us discovered a love for puzzles on our own.

Overall the operation is extremely smooth and very, very impressive. Furthermore, note that this opinion is even more valid after I have spent hours with the Blue, the Green, the Black, and the Bronze; the RevoToy is still very impressive! At £20 each, I think everyone should own one!

I was hoping to get a proto to review too but I guess since I ordered a set anyway I guess it was a bit unnecessary

Only a month and a half to go now! Wonder if anyone will manage to open their silver before their Revotoy turns up?

The maze is identical but is easier to navigate (as it is being aimed towards the whole family). [Edit by REVOMASTER].

That makes a lot of sense. I haven't really spent much time with the blue in the last couple months. I am reopening all my RevoMazes and leaving them disassembled (I don’t know why, but seems like a good idea for some reason), and I had a very hard time with the blue. Having memorized all the mazes, a part I thought was in the blue, was actually in the green; which is why I kept getting stuck in the same spot. But I got it open last week. And now the RevoToy, like I mentioned earlier, I was able to open by memory, without any aids whatsoever, without falling into a single trap, on my first try.

how are the traps? crisp, squishy, clicky, fingers on a chalk board? i was wondering if people always fall in the same place, which they do,will it rub a ramp there or a weak squishy click?

The plastic is Acetal which has excellent mechanical properties including wear. The first one has been in constant use and is still smooth and clicky.

The pin is 316 Stainless and is machined smooth so unless the pin is made really hot from friction you should be ok. Like all new things it needs testing hence the 5 that are out there.

It will be good to hear how the testers get on, also some of you have realized the test is open rather than private.
