As a special treat for MPP attendees who have solved the Lotus puzzle I will be bringing along a rather beautiful X-ray image of the latest Strijbos torture! I X-rayed the Lotus on Tuesday and it's beautiful! You can see every detail of how it works!

Wil has asked that I not email or post the image at all for fear of it getting loose on the internet and I have agreed! It will however, be available at the MPP for all successful solvers to goggle at!

I have scanned a revo using an x-ray designed to scan flash memory. It's incredibly difficult to get anything worthwhile, but it is possible to make out some maze details .... you're never going to solve a puzzle that way though!

Unfortunately X-rays are no use for revos because they take a 3d space and project it onto a 2D plane. A revo just looks like a solid bar inside a sleeve which is effectively what it is.

As for doing a CT scan - I haven't done this because time on one of these machines is hard to get but mainly because the resolution of these devices is just not up to seeing things on the scale of the maze. The current best scanners have a resolution of 5 mm which is not good enough for this purpose and also requires more marked density changes from area to area which we don't have on a revo. The wavelength of X-rays is such that higher resolutions are technically feasible but not really available in the health service!

Now to the MRI idea! Having seen the results of a Molybdenum steel oxygen cylinder taken into an MRI room. I never want to see a ferrous metal object taken in again. The cylinder became a fast moving missile and shot through the MRI and destroyed a far wall! A revo would easily kill someone as it shoots through!!

So in all - I think I'll stick to the odd X-ray of puzzles that might show something useful!
