Pure Puzzle Play

Post by y2khappens »

Wouldn't it be more "Pure Puzzle Play" if one doesn't use "aids"
whether it be the white cap, calipers, micrometers, maps, xrays,
other mechanical devices, clues, tips, etc? Only using your hands
and gray matter. Isn't this the essence of the "challenge" and fun
of solving the puzzle to work it out without any shortcuts???

It might be for some, and not for others. There's enjoyment in some of the things you mention for some of us. I for one can find quite a bit of enjoyment in puzzles that I've solved over and over. Finding the solution is only one of the joys of puzzles.

For me, breaking out the calipers, mapping and deciphering the clues is the appeal of the puzzles. They might be shortcuts but I find it relaxing and fun to create my maps to see where I've been and load papers up with ideas and possibilities.

If I may chime in for a second. Anyway you choose to solve your puzzle short of taking a jackhammer to it should be just fine. As long as you get enjoyment out of it then I don't see the problem. Using a caliper or mapping may be the only way to get the "ah-ha" moment. I personally spent most of my time pondering and staring at maps than actually fiddling with my silver and it's one of the best times I've ever had with a Revomaze! Have fun my friends! :D

I'm a bit similar Y2k. I only use a ruler and Excel as I'm happy with a bit of mapping, but don't want to go too far :D
