If we can't have a magnetic stand which causes the Revo to float in the air ;), then I vote Metal or Carbon. The would suit the look of the puzzle much better than wood, and rubber pads on the contact points would protect the puzzle.

Electromagnet would be awesome, but it would need a lot of energy and the maze would have to be magnetic

I was hoping it would work. I mean i do not know much about carbon fibers, but i figured it might be possible. As for the price, it is gonna be kinda high as ur saying. I dont know about as high as a CE, for a single stand, but it will be very expensive. But might be worth it seeing as it will preserve the puzzle for a while, and will look cool.

and jehrets, isnt metal magnetic? I always thought it was

It really depends on a number of factors, in this case, it is electron spins. Aluminum (what the sleeve is made of) is classified as paramagnetic and exhibits a relatively weak response to an applied magnetic field as it has one unpaired electron in its 3p orbital.

Now I remember why I hate chemistry :x

i always thought they would be very strongly metallic in whcih case thought they were strongly magnetic. guess i was wrong

Yeah...there's a lot of orbital theory and physics involved. Stuff that I left in a classroom a long, long time ago. If you're interested though, I suggest you look it up. It may help you figure out why the pin and the draw are the only parts of these puzzles that are susceptible to a magnet.

dont confuse metal with being magnetic. take something made of steel/iron (usually refrigerators and ovens) and put a magnet on it. then try the same thing with something aluminum like your revomaze or a drink can.

see, i didnt know it was aluminum. I wouldve never guessed the sleeve is aluminum, it seems more straight magnetic metal.

Would be easier to replace the center rod with a neodymium core and set up an electromagnet perpendicular to it :\...
