My package from Wil turned up yesterday too.

I really like Houdini's Torture Cell, it's a clever little puzzle with an elegant solution. Unless you have experience with this sort of puzzle or were an experienced puzzler in general I'm not sure I'd agree that it's that simple though. There is potentially another variant on the solution that I think inexperienced could try for a while. Did you know that this puzzle is is taken from the final puzzle on Opening Bat?

I was a bit disappointed with Cast Donuts. I managed to open it within about two minutes using the correct solution. However, a few minutes later I found another solution that was far less elegant in the way it opened... and since I've found it, it seems this is it's preferred method of opening. It's a nice puzzle with a nice finish and a nice size, but as an engineer, I'd say the mechanism could be refined to eliminate the alternative, less elegant method of opening... it would then also justify it's difficulty rating of 4 (if I remember correctly), personally I think it should be a 2 or a 3 at most.

Did you mean Cast Medal or Maze Medal? I think Maze Medal is a great puzzle. As you said, not quite as difficult as it looks but fun to mess with as the way the pieces interact is pretty neat.

Yes I remember you and Allard chatting about that Opening Bat step at MPP3 :D I think I may have found it easier as I'm a bit of a magnet fan

Hmm I'm not sure I'm doing the donuts in the right method as I'm fairly sure there's a solution that allows for a nice neat separation? Mine's currently a little "sledge hammer" at the moment

Oh and you're right, I meant the Maze Medal

Ok scratch that I've worked out where I was going wrong with the donuts

Still good, although not quite as top as the Marble (my overall favorite) 8-)

marble is my favorite too = ^.^ =
it was the first hanayama puzzle i bought, it's really how i got addicted to mechanical puzzles in the first place actually :]
it feels great in hand, i often put it in my pocket when i go out just to fiddle with it, i think that's why the marble is actually silver now, not gold :(

where did you buy the donuts btw? i can only find them on the hanayama website >.>

...it looks like he said they came from Wil - Wil Strijbos is a wonderful gentleman in the Netherlands who manages to supply quite a number of people with really interesting puzzles... if you ask to get on his mailing list you'll receive an email from time to time with a bunch of puzzles he has available - Donuts was on the last one... ;)
