I've looked at the danlock many many times. But for some reason I'm not pulling the trigger for fear that I might not enjoy it after I solve it. Does it take a while even after you know what to do?

Get the Danlock!

What did it for me was seeing a description on a blog from someone that clearly had a huge collection of great puzzles where he said that if he had to choose one puzzle to be stranded on a desert island with, it would be the Danlock...I picked one up and I understand why he said that...

Once you know the (whole) solution, you could probably do it in a minute or so, but I guarantee it'll put a smile on your face every time!

It's a brilliant thing to toss at a non-puzzler as well...

I fully Agree with Allard, The Danlock is a genious & devious mechanical design with several mental twists to it. This puzzle is best of class. (Hmmm, the above description would apply to some revomazes too :-)

Re-solving the Danlock is a bit like Re-opening a RevoMaze... Once you know the tricks (yes, multiple), you can do it faster. But the fun in Danlock is not to open it fast, the goal actually is to open it AND close it again to the state it was in before you started, which does not go as fast & easy as a RevoMaze... The fun in Re-solving Danlock is like Allard stated: the smile on your face everytime you do it again, because of the marvellous design. (no commission or shares for me either)

If you (or others that are not specifically looking for a birthday present) have the chance, borrow a Danlock from someone for only one week, and then buy one it if you did not solve it in that time. OR if you did open one, buy it anyway to enjoy it and let others have a try while you watch & smile...

Just contacted Dan and he has a model B on hold for me! Now I just need to ask my wife to send the check on monday. The good is I'm really excited now! The bad is that my bday isn't until October so I won't get to play with it until then.

My birthday is less then a month away and I always buy myself something. The gold and orange are paid for so sounds like a Danlock for me too.

Because of my Revomaze experience I learned about the Popplock Series. Since that time I have acquired all of the currently available Popplock series (T2-T5) through various vendors (Puzzlemaster and Grand Illusions). If you don't mind the price tag these puzzles are excellent works of art with a puzzle and a lock all in one. They are best in class and anyone who has an opened Revomaze will not be disappointed. The puzzles are very different in their mechanisms and tricks. My only negative comment is that the solutions are provided with the puzzle and thus do not encourage you to solve them without help.

I'm in the process of petitioning Rainer Popp to re-release the original T1 lock since I was late to the party and was not able to get one in time. So, I'm sure if these locks become more popular that the chances of a re-release will improve.
