At first, I thought they were looking to end the R1 series in favor of the R2 series, but then they mentioned that the puzzles have always been at a premium as if this was a problem they were looking to solve. To me, this means there are no more metal puzzles planned.

I like the slimness of your design.
If I were to remix this, the only change I would make would be to elevate the shaft and body slightly to show them off a bit more.
