Different Core Types

Post by chris_linnick »

Can someone please help me with the different revo extreme (metal) core types/materials?

From my understanding there are the following:
1. V1 nickel-plated brass (i.e., original shiny silver core).
2. V1 unplated brass.
3. V3 stainless steel body and brass maze (i.e., new default, duller silver color core).

Are there any other variations? I'm not sure what the difference is between V1 and V2 (think V2 was just an update to the two pins and the sleeve without the grooves1). If you can post pictures that would be great.

With respect to the sleeves those have always been anodized aluminum. I know those have had other variations as well (e.g., aluminum not anodized, bead blasted, different anodizers, marbles version of GM-different shade, etc.) but those seem to have dozens of variations and spin-offs.

I saw that. I wasn't sure if they actually made a gold plated core or if it's the unplated brass and someone just doesn't understand the different between brass and gold (not the first time I've seen that mistake).

There was an option to buy a SE set with gold plating. The other option was Nickel plated I think.
The Sets were delivered in pristine opened condition. All parts were included so they were fully functional
Puzzles. My set is gold plated and is for display only since gold is so soft.
I may be wrong but I think some sets still have to be delivered.

Can you distinguish gold plated vs unplated visually or by serial number? There were a couple on ebay (may still be there).

The gold shafts are bright and shiny. There is no mistake that they are gold plated. I have a set of three, the Blue, Green and Bronze Revos with gold shafts. They are not from the CE sets. KIRK
