Hales Locks

Post by ghxost »

Anyone have one aside from Prodigy? I saw him (her?) list it as a great lock.

I picked up 05 and should get it eventually once customs is done playing with it.

Reviews look good for the whole series. Seem they get progressively harder as the series goes on for the most part except 02 maybe? I don't know.

I know these are actual modified locks, some call them trick locks... The guy seems to have some skills that's for sure!

Thoughts on them?

I know it is not a revomaze but I hope to get a little play out of it before I'm done!

I got Hales Lock 2 and it's not my favorite puzzle lock by any means, I haven't been able to get my hands on one of the others when I had money for more puzzles. I want one of his later ones, but I won't pay premium for it.

I have heard the Hokey Cokey Lock by Alistair Morris was an idea of Shane Hales, it is easier than most of the Haleslock but it gives a fair idea of the type of locks HL 2, 3 and 4 look like...
The HL5 is far more complex and involved, you have 3 successive steps to open it. The lock is very good the only thing I was sad about is that the difficulty of these steps decreases while you solve it...
I dont know for HL1 :)

Thanks for all the feedback. I picked up a hokey cokey lock too today. I'm not sure but it sounds like he is just running down the stock on those so I didn't want to miss it. Stock was at 3, now 2... BTW anyone done their brass monkey set? Very interesting!

These are my first two locks in my collection. Very excited!

I have the Hokey Cokey, and the both brass monkeys.
The monkeys are fairly easy burrs, but crafted beautifully. They will restock (at least that what happened in the past).
I also have the Hales Lock 5, but haven't played with it yet.

Coo thanks. I love the look of the monkees but they appear not too challenging...

Hales 5 cleared customs. On the way! Revomazes did too. Just have to wait out the rest of shipping haha

Nope. It was all Ali's design. :geek:

And an interesting design it was.
I still don't know how people come up with these things but I sure like solving them!
Got a letter of disappointment after he saw my solve time (less than 5 minutes) but I assured him it was a lucky quick find. Hoping for a longer challenge on hales 5 and danlock
