Seems people ordered both: assembled and disassembled.

Hmmm.. Only 4 responders. I'm not surprised that no one ordered the gold plated set closed. We don't know how the gold plating will wear, but the fear is that it won't last long if the pin is rubbing against it. Heck, the nickel plating shows wear under normal use. I'm not positive about the details of how the gold plating works, but I recall that it's nickel plated first, then gold plated.

For the nickel plated version, I recall I number of people wanting to receive them closed. They looked at the purchase as a way of getting all five puzzles plus a bonus puzzle that wouldn't be available otherwise. This was great for those that hadn't bought any separately, not so great for those that already owned the original five puzzles.

In the general section, there's list of those that ordered the sets. There were more than four, as I recall. A quick check indicates at least 18 sets were ordered.

At one time there were 14 or so responders and then someone (not me) reset the poll

Odd. I added an option, but the 14 votes were still there at that time. Apologies if I did it though.

Editing a poll always deletes the current results as it assumes that at least some of the people who voted a particular way previously may choose the new option (assuming an option is added). It cannot be reverted back after the change is made either.

I have a question. I have not decided yet if I would order it assembled or not.

The idea of never being able to see the inside of it kind of scares me, given the amount of money it requires to buy/own such a set.

For those who already have one of these, can you tell me if I get madly insane about opening the puzzle, are the instructions/maps explicit enough to open any of the puzzles?
Blue - BU00965 - opened
Green - - - - - - - opened
Bronze - - - - - - -in progress
Lime LM00159
Orange - OR00159
Gold - -AU00105
Black V2 Obs - - - opened
Blue Pro V2 Obs - opened
CE set - CE052
Indigo (bought)
GunMetal (bought)

No one currently has one of these in their possession but provided you can solve at least the blue without cheating the maps and booklet provided should be more than enough to allow you to open the more difficult ones although they still may require some skill in order to do that

I'd say order them closed. That should be motivation enough to open them. Not to mention this is an investment. They're made to be played with!

Its really the experience of opening them thats drove me to spend WAY TOO MUCH ON SOME OF THE LIMITED EDITIONS! :X And its the fun that really gives these puzzles they're value. I think you'd be doing yourself a disservice by ordering them open.

And that is precisely the reason for the forum. Antagonizing nudges in the right direction

Is there a way to choose how it is sent?
