but that is most likely due to the delays w/ gold... hopefully they'll reappear once their promised puzzles are delivered...

Wow! £1000, I'd consider selling at that price!.....considered it...but no, think I'll keep it. ;)

Now that price makes more sense. It should still be clearer that these are out of production on the website.

If Chris made a removable version of the Original Black maze it might satisfy those that have never seen what's inside. Unfortunately that Obsession doesn't seem to be available anymore. I wouldn't be surprised it isn't made anymore since it was designed by the previous engineers.

That's exactly it. The old engineers destroyed the program so that they would never be made again. It's a shame but there it is. I would love a Black Ex but even half that amount is loads so I doubt it will ever happen for me but who knows.

The website was updated earlier today. It now clearly states: "THESE WILL NOT BE MADE AVAILABLE FROM US AGAIN AS ALL 20 ARE NOW SOLD."

As it happens, I'm not convinced that it is destroyed. In guess theory Chris could pay them for the rights to use the design for an obsession with a removable core... maybe something to consider once the current backlog is cleared and things have settled down.

Why would chris need to 'buy' if off them anyway? Surely if its his design he has the rights to it etc. Anyway I think no more should be made, not even out of plastic. It ruins the idea of only 20 of them if more are made, in platic or whatever.

It wasn't his design though. The design was produced entirely by the engineer at the original manufacturer so that Chris could have a go at solving a Revomaze for himself without having seen the maze/map beforehand. While the Revomaze design is Chris', the Black "map that was wrapped around those cores" isn't.

I would've assumed that the old manufacturers wouldn't have bothered protecting the design.

Copyright would automatically protect it. Not really a patentable thing (well, at least not in the U.S., not sure about the U.K.)

That aside, a good question is whether it would be considered a work for hire or not and who actually owns the design at that point.

Protection of things like this usually come more as an after thought. That is, he decides to re-run them, they make tons of money, old manufacturer says "We want a slice!" and litigate their way into the action.

...interesting thoughts there Jay - I'm left wondering two things:
[1] - Would there be a backlash from collectors who own them on the grounds of the value of their puzzles being diluted?, and
[2] - I wonder what Gabi thinks of the legal position - I'm sure he gave us the benefit of his keen legal mind on a similar topic a while back...
