IPP32 9 2012 parts packing problem puzzle by david goodman

Post by zebrafinch »

Pack all 9 parts in the large container and close the lid. All wood puzzle

Does anyone who solved this puzzle have any hints? I have had this for a number of years and have not made any progress on it.

A rectangular box with a slidy lid exchanges by Dor Tietz, right?
I don't have it myself and I'm not sure what sort of things you've tried, but I suspect you need to look at the possibility of diagonals and/or packing some pieces on edge.

Is it this puzzle? As Chris has already suggested.

yes that is the one. I have tried different ways like side and vertical.. I assume the solution has all the pieces laying flat or standing and not leaning on each other at some weird angle like a a fallen Jenga tower.

Looks easy but seems quite hard.

It's a great little puzzle. While at IPP, I spoke with David, and he tells me there's a new version which is harder ... looking forward to trying it. Sadly he didn't have a copy with him.

I would very much like to get my hands on the original or the more difficult one. Anyone have any link or idea where I may get one?

Thanks in advance.
