I wouldn't be too put out. It took two of us here to do it.
We could very likely have gone a whole lot further but there were a few slip ups when the wrong direction was pressed (I'd like to point out that I wasn't the one pressing the buttons). The killer was when right was pressed instead of down, which led to a 2 being placed under the 64 in the 3rd column.

The basic rules we used were only to use down and right alternately. If there were no more moves that could be made then up was used. This had to immediately be followed by down unless 2 or more blocks could be merged by going right AND the new cube didn't appear in the bottom row. Never, ever use left unless it is not possible to go in any of the other 3 directions.

Using these rules and a few other minor conditional rules in places, you should be able to stack the biggest number in the bottom right corner and decreasing numbers up the right hand wall and then snaking back down the 3rd column when needed. The tricky bit is to only build up the block that you need, resist building up 32, 64 etc anywhere other that where it is needed at the end of the chain. This makes collapsing the chain much easier at each increasing stage.

As you can see, our 4096 landed up in the top right because we were forced to do a left at one point and all hell broke loose. We managed to recover it, but it was tricky. Down takes priority over up unless this happens, then just build everything into the top right.

Anyway, try it yourself - just using down/right... you'll get some really easy patterns and once you get the knack of the few exception moves you'll be able easily smash 512 in a minute or two.

I tried the Bluesign2k method (TM). Got my personal best score AND a 4096 tile! Your royalty cheque is in the mail. ;)

I am done.

I don't need proof. I'd love to see it though!

Edit: I just posted a score of 71416. Just 12 less than you! I was in very good shape to get a 8192 block until 1 move ruined everything. Sigh.

Full disclosure: I cheated!

This is my unofficial high score. I was curious how high the tile values could go. I started a game on my iPhone and every time I felt I hit a milestone, I duplicated the game in a new browser window. It's like creating a save point. I've put about 3 hours into this game so far, with MANY mistakes and do overs.

Hypothetically, 64k will fit on the board, but I think the planets would have to align perfectly for that to happen.
