The biggest problem with animated avatars, is the file size restriction the board had been set to.
It's only 6k ... so to do anything fancy is almost impossible.

I tried to make a rotating and colour changing one that looked good in photoshop but the smallest I could make the 7 frames was about 12k ... any smaller and the resolution just made it look like rubbish.

If the webmaster could just up the avatar size limit a bit it would make the world of difference.

Run the same file through Fireworks and optimise for size, colour palette, resolution etc. I've found Fireworks to be more efficient/proficient at optimising images than Photoshop. Use either the Export or Batch Processor tools and/or others if you want to play...

I just tried that .. but it really didn't do the job .. to get it down to 6k I had to turn up the loss to 81%
It was already at 16 colours .. Photoshop did about the same job.
I have the latest CS5.5 ...

I shrank the file down to 75x75 px .. but it was just not good enough for me ....
Never mind .. I will live with my plain old avatar for now .....

Thanks anyway .....

Just bumping up the board max avatar size would be nice .... (for me anyway :) )
