Phew! Glad to know only Obama calls them that, and not anyone else who is saying the full, unofficial name after which the initials were originally based.

And yes, 40% of the shares are in the U.S., because BP "merged" (acquisitioned? took over?) Amoco in 1998. It was called "BP Amoco" for three years, before it renamed itself to "BP plc".
It now uses the tagline "Beyond Petroleum". Or, according to BPGlobalPR their new tagline is "Bad People".

I think that everything about BP, greenhouse effect, pollution and war for oil, can be summed up with this picture:

I'm reminded of a quote...

"If we and the rest of the backboned animals were to disappear overnight, the rest of the world would get on pretty well. But if they were to disappear, the land's ecosystems would collapse. The soil would lose its fertility. Many of the plants would no longer be pollinated. Lots of animals, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals would have nothing to eat. And our fields and pastures would be covered with dung and carrion. These small creatures are within a few inches of our feet, wherever we go on land — but often, they're disregarded. We would do very well to remember them."

well, the solar panel image is just to remind all of us that we don't need oil at all, and all this mess is just a matter of political choices. if sensibility was used in chosing our energy sources, we'd be using solar/wind/sea electricity since 1970 (at least)

legalizing marjuana would be great (I don't smoke, but as alchool is legal, I can't see any problem in legalizing any other drug. Revo is legal, isn't it?)
same sex marriages? I am ok with them too: same sex people have been living together since last ice age. It's just a matter of respect recognize it. Imho, of course.

You don't really believe we don't need oil at all ... do you? Even the puzzle you enjoy requires oil products for production.

How about we stop this leak ... first and foremost. Discussing anything else right now is premature as damage is still occuring every second the flow continues. To many people are concerned about cost and blame than solving the problem. Let have this battle after the fix is in place. Makes no sense at all to do this now.

There are always alternatives for oil. Not all lubricants are petrol based. And the problem with not holding the ones, be it many, responsible for their actions is it teaches society that if you mess up someone else will pick up the pieces for you. Is the spill horrible? Yes. Were several mens lives lost over horrible decisions? Yes. Could a little more time taken and proper precautions taken adverted this travisty? Most definetly yes. The problem is that you or me or the next guy don't have the means to resolve this problem and the ones who do are too afraid to take a pay cut when their companies were the ones who directly caused this problem in the first place. If I or anyone here knew how to fix the problem ourselves I'm sure any one of us would have been over there by now. Now I just heard they are thinking of sending a nuke down there to capsize the leak! Are you kidding me?!? A nuke!!! These guys would cook a pizza with a flamethrower I bet.

Sorry for the rant but mans quick quest for money at the expense of all around him, including his fellow man, really gets to me! Glad to know that so many care about this situation!

Great movie. =) I never said there isn't blame, but right now the house is burning down. Put out the fire first and save the lives. There is plenty of blame to go around. As for oil consumption ... look at the numbers and dig deep. The military, big rig transportation, international shipping, and airlines consume the wealth of the oil. If you want to be serious about energy changes ... look in those areas. You cannot run a tank on grain, and airplanes need more than solar panels on the wings. Everything else is trivial and hot air.
