I interpreted that note totally differently. Given the confines of the space, the constraints on design, and the difficulty to solve, 72 or similar is not unreasonable. Remember that is "or similar" steps to solve. If he is going to punt designs for having 80 steps, he needs to let us know now.

I spent about 10 hours at work trying to draw just the first corner which I ended up scrapping completely. This is going to take a while. I'm also loving every second of the design process.

I wonder how many spouses are sleeping alone tonight(s) while their significant other is totally absorbed plotting the most diabolical orange design ??

Do they realize (the lonely spouses) it may only get worse come October ... or better :o ... depends on your perspective.

Nice thing about O.D'ng is that (a) it doesn't physically hurt, (b) there are no 'clicks', and (c) beer doesn't effect ones' performace.

stet wrote:Actually something doesn't seem right there. I think that is actually supposed to be the maze end, not the start. I consider the main reset band as the start and that will be at column 00.

The Draw pin hole is for the pin that holds the draw in place.

The maze pin hole is the start from an assembly point of view... From a users point of view it is the end of the maze

As stet rightly says, the main reset (beginning) of all the others is at column 00.

The "72 steps" is just what the Blue has. Green has less steps and has a higher difficulty rating, Silver has around 240 steps because you have to repeat some steps. It is not a restriction, it was just an example. it was just really to show that the number of steps is not essential in determining the difficulty rating. The Blue has been the most successful to date as it is a simple design

(Just thought I'd clarify those points and save you all some REVOGenie wishes!!)

FYI, I hope you've all read page 10 properly (particularly the "Submitting Your Design" section)

t-minus 55 days...

Okay guys - this forum is waaay too quiet !! This is a friendly competition ! Is everyone keeping their actions top secret? :P

Or is there an other forum I'm overlooking? :o

Does anyone think we should post our "techinical" type findings on the forum as a FAQ section?

mmm, well maybe not ... I'm just rambling.
That is likely potentially too proprietary from an Ashton-Pitt perspective.

I guess it is everyone for themselves.

really tough to say...it doesn't seem that much is being posted so everyone must be keeping to themselves pretty much which is fine.

If you guys are getting blasted by questions then maybe we should have a FAQ section.

Mind you, it is only week one and there is lots of time left. Most of use are probably just getting to an actual design that makes sense. Confirming it is technically feasible might be a few weeks away still.

One thing for sure is that it ain't easy but it is cool to be on the other side of the thought process for a change.

how right u are mj, ive been thinkin to myself exactly how im going to make this maze now that i know exactly how it needs to be. i will be keeping my old maze design as a basic, but mind u, my old sadistic design, is a basic. which means only one thing, once i put all my plans into action, i feel bad.

You could do a forum for the registered orange comp users that would require permission to join so that techinical details could be posted without them ending up on the web in the open areas. Although the instructions say not to share ideas until after the comp is over.
