Competition packs will be sent out this month to all that have pre-ordered the Orange. Anybody else wishing to join the competition needs to contact me in order to be approved for a pack.

The competition is NOT limited to those who have pre-ordered the Orange, however it IS limited to those who have registered and opened at least one puzzle before the cut-off date. Entries for the competition will be limited to 250, and priority will be given to forum members.

The official start date of the competition is Sunday 1st August 2010. The close date of the competition will coincide with the launch date of the Gold, which unless otherwise stated will be Thursday 30th September.

Uhmm... can the people who are more likely to spend more time thoughtfully designing their puzzle - those that have completed all the puzzles to date - get a special pass on the 250 limit? Otherwise, I foresee 250 penises designed to look like puzzles arriving within a week of the competition start and packets being sent out - even if you put on the requirement of having completed at least one puzzle.

Also, what are going to be the judging conditions? Originality/Coolness/etc?

I would guess that within a few minutes Chris and company could weed out any 'mechanically' problematic or 'silly' puzzles as they come in after August 1st. Perhaps there might be a submission-like leader board where entries are either accepted to the 'board' or rejected and not part of the 250 total.

I'm 3 months into my orange design ... I don't see why one would wait to at least get your basic concept on paper.

It would be interesting to know what rating would be sought of the oranges. Something < 65 might be disappointing to the majority of pre-purchasers. Something > 85 might take too much effort/cost to make for only 250 units.

I'd like to think the maturity level for the puzzle designs will exclude "penis" designs. Although I'm sure all will become clear soon I'm hoping that the use of autocad isn't required.

As I said earlier, forum members will have priority over everybody else, but if anyone is worried about securing their entry then they just have to email me.

Those who have pre-ordered will automatically receive a pack, but some may not wish to enter.

Those who have opened all (or most) puzzles so far will likely have a place in the competition anyway, but I would like to think that if they were genuinely worried that they would not make the first 250 they would email/PM me earlier rather than later.

Obviously the end result needs to be practical... I mean if we received a design with a live hippopotamus pushing the pin to the end then it would not be considered.. I know this because that was my design :(

If you have an idea and want to check that it's physically possible then I'm sure Chris will be able to help to a certain extent. (as in "does this work?".. "yes".. Not as in "how can I do this?".. "Here is an idea" if that makes sense)

I think the winner will be chosen based on a number of things, but originality and entertainment value will probably be 2 major players!

Ha! I used to teach physics. That answer is one of my favorite "creative" answers of all the ones floating around the web.

(The elephant is also the reason I can't open my bronze.) :?
