Re: Mapping Challenge

Post by Otakutom17 »

The washer method does look like the best option, to be honest. I should be able to get the parts needed easily enough.

EDIT:
Due to the fact that I still don't trust my hands when it comes to drawing out the map on paper, I've decided to go a route that I think will work for me. It's essentially the same as the Washer method, but I'll be using FreeCAD to track my process, instead.

Now I just need a mm ruler (preferably) to measure my movements, and figure out a way to measure rotation.

Mapping Aid

Post by w1se »

Hey, just made this to help out with my mapping so I thought I'd share it with everyone.

I didn't design this FYI, it is very similar to what was given with the design instructions for the Revomaze Orange competition. (Only difference really is that its BIGGER).

If sharing this is in violation of something, my bad.

If you are interested in the full file send me a pm and i'll email it to you.

EDIT: sorry guys had to take the attachment off....

I put this out to help myself with mapping. The difference is that it give you an accurate size of the area you are working with.

Thanks for that w1se!

Do you happen to know off-hand the measurement that each square relates to on the grid?

I have no Revo on me at the moment to do the measuring myself.

Not to be a prude, but the contents of the Orange Packet are confidential and should only be made available to persons registered for the design competition. Dimensions of the core, widths of paths and depths of traps should probably not be made public without explicit permission. You could always register for the orange design competition!

I don't know the dimensions, but you can always pull out a ruler and measure the width of the pin. If you have a caliper handy that would be even better. Similarly you can measure the diameter of your shaft with a caliper or vernier and multiply it by pie to get the circumferance of the shaft.

I just ordered my Blue today and can't wait to get started.

Seeing as I use AutoCAD on a daily basis, I think I'll try to create a map using that once I figure out the dimensions of the shaft (won't be difficult).

Ah ha! Great to see someone else on board, and a keen mapper by the sounds of it too... excellent!

I'd be interested to see a map generated with AutoCAD, I use solidworks everyday and tried to map the blue on it (after I'd opened it) but it all got rather complex (to be fair, I was also trying to wrap the design around a cylinder which caused all sorts of chaos!), so I gave up :( I hope you'll share you work in the Open area once you have your puzzle open :D

Once I solve it and finish the map I'll definitely share it. Not really sure how long it'll take, but its on my list.
