What is a V3?

Post by stet »

Hi! I've been away for quite a while and have just found out that a V3 Blue is coming out soon. But I have some questions:

What is a V3 exactly?
Is the V3 Blue a new maze, or the same maze as the V1/V2/Obsession Blue?

I asked Revo HQ through email and also on Facebook but haven't had back yet.
Needs to be updated!

Just a cheaper way to make the mazes with the equipment Chris has. I think he said the old shafts have a Z axis and he cant mill Z with his CNC machine. V3 has three components, the center core and two ends.. Please correct me if I am wrong. There are a few photos floating around. KIRK

Let me preface this with I've been a huge fan of Revomaze puzzles since I stumbled across them in 2013 and have purchased more new and used Revos than I will admit to my wife! This includes duplicates to share with family & friends, Special Editions, Obsessions & One-of-a-kinds. Only a portion of my collection is included in my signature block. :)

With that said, I received my first V3 last week and am not impressed with how the new V3 shaft looks. It functions fine, but the 3 piece core just doesn't look anywhere as "professional" and refined as the one piece core.

I showed the three different shafts (V3, solid, & center rod) to a friend who's never seen or played with Revos and he pointed to the V3 shaft and said, "is that how they were made in the beginning?" He viewed the evolution of shafts as V3 then Solid then the removable rod.

I know Chris is limited with his new equipment, but I don't feel this is the route to go with future Revomazes.

Just wanted to give some honest feedback.

So is this an aesthetic thing then for you?

You say it plays fine. My understanding is that when closed it looks the same. So your complaint is the visual nature of the solved core?

Just curious and trying to understand where the issue you see actually is versus assuming..

Seeing how I cover my exposed cores I would not find that alone an issue myself..?

Yes, it is the visual thing for me. IMO, it doesn't look as clean, sleek and refined as the other cores. You can call it a complaint, those are your words, I just said I'm not impressed with the way it looks. :)

This is my feedback on the new core.

I meant complaint or dislike or choose a synonym lol

Ignore the unintended negativity..

No worries. I'm still going to purchase new Revos, I would just prefer the older core styles.

Having received my first two V3 mazes I'm wondering if the allen key for disassembly is supposed to come with the mazes? Mine came without :!:
If I hadn't have a fitting allen key at home I wouldn't be able to get to the certificates.

Have others received allen keys with their mazes?
