My Revomaze might be broken

Hello all,
So I started this thread because I am not sure where else to turn to for my problem. I believe my blue puzzle is actually not working properly. I ordered the 2-pack blue and orange package. I worked on the blue for a bit but then ended up having to put a lot of my stuff in storage. My puzzle was actually in a box in a closet. It was never dropped or damaged in any way, as I took really good care of it. I pulled it out the other day and, to my dismay, I cannot actually work the puzzle. It is is in the 'reset' ring, the shaft is in the starting position. It has now become very, very hard to turn at all. Takes a lot! of force. Not at all like it should be. It is literally stuck. If i apply enough force i can turn the shaft in about a 90 degree space, very slowly. it does not push in or out either. Now, I am not looking for help or hints in regards to the solution, but merely asking is this something that is part of the puzzle, or am I actually dealing with a malfunction here? If this is an expected outcome at some point during puzzling, then I will keep at it. I appreciate any help or advice you guys might have or experiences with this weird issue. Thanks
