Carrying a Revomaze on a plane...

Post by SME »

I imagine this has come up before, but as a new Revomaze user - what's the word on carrying 'grenade like' metal Revomazes on commercial flights in hold luggage that will doubtless go through x-raying? I imagine hand luggage is out?

I want to believe you shouldn’t have any problems but I do not fly very often. The detail they can see with the X-ray units is amazing and it should be pretty clear that they are not dangerous. If you are really worried you could always try to call the airline and see what they recommend. Make sure you secure it well if you do decide to fly with it as we all know how gentile the baggage handlers can be!

I fly with a revomaze or two almost every time I fly. (I'm in the US) What I have found helps is taking the revomaze out and running it through the "x-ray" system in it's own tray, not leaving it buried in my backpack. I would say about 1/3 of the time they ignore it, a 1/3 of the time they pick it up, look at it and ask what is it, and 1/3 of the time they want to "test" it using their equipment. I've been flying with them for over 3 1/2 years, no issues so far. I'd say the last year about half of the TSA agents tell me that they've seen them before. :D

I also fly with them all the time without any problems. I pull them out into their own tray at security and I usually bring my plastic Blue Obsession core just in case they want to see how they work. The TSA agents in the US generally just ask what they are and sometimes test them for explosives residue, but I've never gotten a single comment about them in any foreign country.

Thanks for the replies - so I guess they'd be fine in the hold luggage?

I'm still waiting for my first revomaze to arrive in the mail hopefully next week, but I imagine what I would do is have them xrayed in their own bin and maybe carry 1 easy maze like the blue already solved and 1 that im working on so if they have any questions they can see what the easy maze looks like on the inside and also have the website ready to show them what it is.
