While this isnt coming to fruition before the end of the year, I did manage to get some real prototyping done.

I still need to find someone who can laser cut some acrylic for me, but these 3 part plastic stands are a slight update from the traditional stands. I've made the base the same size as the draw bar which means they are slightly larger than the wooden versions from Revomaze. The vertical supports are a bit wider as well (6mm or 7mm) which i think works a bit better as the puzzle really locks in. When creating the verticals i mistakenly made them the same exact diameter as the puzzle so they dont sit flush, however i feel this is better than my originally intended design as the contact surface is less and therefore will cause less scuffing over the long term.

For a better understanding of what these stands are and how they work I thought i'd share some photos. You've seen the stands with puzzles, as i'm sure you know, the plastics and the metals use the same files and therefore both fit the stands nicely.

These three stands have been assembled/disassembled several times. a spot of super glue can make them permanently one unit, but is unnecessary as the stands have great rigidity and can be broken down and stored or transported.

Here are the stands with out puzzles:

This is how they ship:

All the of these stands have shipped out and should be in hand by mid-week next week. I am looking forward to getting some feed back. In the mean time, I've gone ahead and started working on a modified version for open Revomaze puzzles that will allow shaft display. This design is based on that Mark76 created earlier in this thread.

Based on trials here and how quickly I receive feedback from the PLA prototypes, I'm hoping to have some of these prototypes shipped out before NYE.

Another failed print, but here's a concept of what the stand would look like if it could hold the shaft separately.

And a fun picture of lime on lime...Image
