There would be little point in renting it out as it has already stared that it will be shipped un-assembled... presumably because he's hoping that whoever buys it will leave it that way and keep it in perfect condition.
I've been offered silly money on a number of occasions to sell mine, so as Ali said, I wouldn't try to rush selling it... unless you need the cash immediately.

Re: Buyers and Sellers
Unless he wants a bidding war, and it sounds like he doesn't, it might be best for him to set a price for it and then lotterize it. Perhaps he can set up a lottery system that works better than the purple lottery. An alternative is to have people write an essay or poem on why they should be the one allowed to buy the Black. Just kidding

Or
How about a rental system where puzzlers can rent it for a month at say $10 per month not including postage costs.
I am sure there would be a long queue

Let's say the very expensive and completely irreplaceable puzzle gets damaged or broken. Remember, this one can't be sent back to HQ for a replacement sleeve or core.Daveeeboy wrote:How about a rental system where puzzlers can rent it for a month at say $10 per month not including postage costs.
Or there's the issue if someone decided to spend $10 and not give it back...

Re: Buyers and Sellers
Exactly. So you would have to offer lots of money as insurance.
Either way it will probably come down to someone with money. But that is what he said he needs
I see what's wrong with a huge public auction. People coming crazy and complaining.
I get what you mean by leaving it open to leave it in perfect condition. So a renting system has no way of guaranteeing it.
If you were gonna rent it just to look at you might as well pay for pics.
Selling it would assure it lands in the hands of someone who cares.

Yeah renting wouldn't work for a valuable Limited Edition puzzle, because it would more than likely get ruined.

Re: Buyers and Sellers
I said I'd be willing to pay a deposit. That way I as a renter would be at risk of losing as well! (What If I send it back in good faith and the owner didn't refund the deposit?)
I know renting wouldn't work. We live in a messed up world and trust isn't to be taken lightly by anyone anymore.

Well, regardless, whatever does happen to this puzzle (and any other puzzle really) will be completely down to the owner, so I think we can leave this conversation here for now.

Re: Buyers and Sellers
That's what I'm fearing. It depends on how much he is willing to trust people.
Re: Buyers and Sellers
Hi Guys
I've received about 15 PMs from interested parties...some notes:
- no one wants to pay silly money (and I don't want to make silly money)
- a public auction doesn't guarantee the puzzle will remain in our community
- too much money gets tied up in third party fees and transactions with an on-line auction
- a raffle will level the entry field to some extent and there will be a "winner" determined in a timely manner
- renting a piece of artwork is just not feasible.
I'm going to consider a raffle and will develop the plan and guidelines this week.
Some considerations:
- A deck of cards will provide and limit the random selection mechanism
- Players may buy 1 card each during the first week starting Apr22 with a provision to buy additional card(s) in week 2 (starting Apr29).
- I will donate 10% of the total raffle funds to Revo HQ for charitable consideration
- Players must have opened at least 3 revos from the set { BR / AU / AG / OR / RD / LM / TI / HM } or at least have 5+ extremes in their collection
- While there are lots of new revo members these days my intent in releasing this puzzle would be to someone invested in the R1 extemes.
- Players must not already own a Black EX
- The Revo names and card allocations will be provided (via email) to all participants every 2 days.
- The raffle date (mid May) and time will be predetermined. It will be video taped with a GMT time-clock running
- Players must agree not to flip this puzzle for monetary gain. I may hold back the certificate for a period of time.
- I like the 50 words or less essay
"I would provide a good home for this puzzle because ..."
Interested players must forward me their email from this point forward.
PMs or forum conversations just won't work efficiently.

I will provide all additional info to those I hear from over this week.
Cheers
Mike
