As it's been pointed out to me in the past, the draw bar isn't needed, and in fact Chris himself often runs the mazes without the draw bar at Gadget show etc. Just take a second when you get to the end of the maze and you'll be fine. I'm not even sure the gap is large enough that the pin can get through the core and into the gap. I believe the pin is just slightly too long!

I stand corrected but I still wouldn't do it ;)

The pin is short enough to drop through. However, you should know that you're at the end of the maze and can therefore put your finger over the hole in the core to stop it dropping on the floor. As Neil said all the puzzles demonstrated at gadget shows etc didn't use the draw bar. I don't generally bother with it either.

Doesn't feel the same to me sans the draw bar.. I find it very interesting that people remove it. Not that I disagree with it, just that the thought of re-assembling it without the part had never crossed my mind.

Instead of letting my puzzles roll around on the side I like to stand them up on end. With the draw bar removed they're a bit more stable that way. Also one way to make a stand or a Revomaze coat rack is to make a rack with dowels sticking out and place the hollow cores over them. Much better then letting them roll around or falling over. ;)
