They look like they're in there through Puzzlemaster not direct.

Hmmm... tempted to bid on the gold but...

Ive heard its not much of a puzzle and more a research on the net for clues kinda puzzle. Plus you need all those plastic mazes from previous extremes to work it out. So is it not useless unless you have these as well?

No other mazes are required to open revogold.
There are clues involved, and an algorithm is involved, and you may search the web (in vain) to try to understand the clues in a (futile) attempt to solve the algorithm.
Revogold is different, very different...
£20 is not bad, but it won't sell for that.

I dont get how it works. Why cant you solve it without the algorithm? Is this before or after you get to complete the actual maze? Or is there no maze? Im tempted to start bidding but I dont even get what it is or how it works... :?

In theory you need the algorithm to generate a code to tell you how to correctly set the internal mechanism. The theory of the mechanism is simple, mapping is tricky though as standard techniques won't work for all of the maze. Navigation of the maze is done just as you would with any other Revomaze.

Everyone that's opened it so far has used the information that can be extracted from the clues to simply reduce the number of possible results to a low, manageable number that can then be (fairly) easily brute forced. At this point the puzzle is open. Once open it seems that people then reverse engineered the solution to produce a working algorithm. At this point you can get open group access, and most people can call it a day at that.

However, Chris has since stated that to be classed as fully solved, the algorithm clues must all be fully explained and the algorithm steps must then follow those clues. If you try to solve the algorithm then some research will be needed, but I'm not sure how likely it is that this will ever happen. Of those that have opened it, I don't know anyone that's continuing to work on it, as such nobody has the last acetate map yet.

TL;DR: its still a revomaze. It still has a sleeve, a core, a draw and two pins. It's just that the majority of it isn't really like any other revomaze. It can be opened by mapping with trial and error but some educated guessing based on the clues will greatly speed things up. Don't get hung up on thinking you have to completely solve the clues / algorithm to physically open the puzzle... because nobody has as yet, and yet a number of golds are open.

That sums it up really well.

N.B.
Anybody who buys a second hand Gold needs to get the three letter maze code from either the seller, or from Revo H.Q. as it will be specific to that maze ( identified by serial number ).

This starting code is needed to generate the final opening code.
