Have it lock in place, but have a pin that lets the user pull it out. Not that it'll get opened by accident, but let the user take an extra twist to get it out.

Perhaps you could attach the pin to the spring? Although if you do that, you would have to put a large notch where you would put the pin back...

Perhaps just a screw through the sleeve in line with the spring and pin. Unscrew and drop the spring and pin.

You could also put a slide on it, so it'll come out all the way for viewing, but sticks at the last bit.
