Is it time to split?

Post by ReVoMaster »

Hi All

Been thinking for a while about the leader board and the fact it is unfair to have so many people who cannot make it to the UK competition.

Here is my proposal:

We have two leader boards -

United States of America & Canada

UK (Rest of the World)

We would like to promote the competition in the USA and have a venue in Las Vegas.

The UK one will be in London.

That would mean the ones who are currently on the leader board can choose between the two with the aim to have a video link between the two and the competition to be run simultaneously.

By actively promoting in the USA we hope to have a larger base of users and the number of places are doubled.

Your opinion would be appreciated.

Kind regards

Chris

even if i wasnt on the leaderboard at all, i'd still be there in LV. who wouldnt go? i mean even if you're from chicago and your spouse hate puzzles, who can deny a free hotel stay in Vegas?

The idea is nice, and fair to the USA fans.
Although the USA fans still won't be able to shake hands with Chris ;)

Hmmm, does twice as many places mean reducing the chance of winning a purple Revo by 50%? That would be a pity.
I assume the final would still be the 5 winners of each color (or maybe even less if Farrel manages to open 2 or 3 of them the fastest).

Video link? Sounds great but its a massavie time difference between London and Las Vegas, it was a real pain last time i was there.

My idea was to have 10 purples - 5 Americas and 5 Rest of World and 2 winners and we will add 6 World Record (one for each colour inc Purple). The one who gets all five maps first get a 2 sec lead while the one who gets first in the other area gets a 1 second lead.

In effect we would have two competitions each with their own prizes and a new World Record for the overall fastest (might be another colour).

What we can do is have the final (purples) synchronized so it may become a 2 day event (Friday Arrive - Saturday Main Competition - Sunday Final).

That would help the timezone difference with the UK kicking off around 7pm, the Americas will kick off around 11-noon.

Chris, it sounds like you've thought of everything. On the plus side, this will double the number of winner which doubles all of our chances of winning. Really, the only down side is that each winner will get a smaller portion of the prize fund.

We have done nothing in terms of promotion other than the Gadget Show Live - and would really like to turn up the heat. We are establishing a means to distrubute to the USA and Canada and have two in place.

My aim is to also have a major outlet where the puzzles can be seen in person in the UK and the USA plus a few smaller speciallized shops.

Our aim is to make a much bigger impact especially as we are working on a special project that we hope will be big. No - VERY BIG!

I have been working late shifts to get the last into production and the RED done plus I have been doing many other things and testing (Including an Adam Special ;) )

Having the wider America audience will increase the sales if they are included in the competition by having their own event. Having it next year I do not think will be cost effective and who knows, we may even have an annual event to see who can get the World Record!

I will be working all this weekend to get everything in place.

I'm around all day tomorrow. Wondering around the house sorting things, watching boats sail past my window, beer on my balcony etc.

So if you're around, I'll be online all day. :)
