Do I need a map?

Post by Cirne »

Hi! I just got my first mazes, blue and bronze, a couple days ago. I made my way through blue the same day, I've been working on bronze since, and I gather I'm stuck on the part everyone gets stuck on: I can hop in and out of the pool with ease, but I've got no clue where I could possibly go afterwards.

My question is this: I've seen a lot of suggestions of "map everything out", but I have a fairly strong spatial sense and I'm pretty sure my mental image of the pool and its surroundings is pretty accurate. I didn't have any issue navigating blue by feel, though there are certainly some spots that don't seem to behave properly - presumably, this is the "dynamic" that was mentioned on the store page.

Is making a written map likely to help me more than the one in my head?

You should do them however you want and enjoy them the most. Bronze can be completed without a map. It is much more difficult than Blue however. Some people really enjoy doing them in their head and some really enjoy making a map. Give it a go without a map and you can always draw one later if you think it'd help.

Thanks! I'll keep hammering on this with a mental map and see if I can figure out what's causing the strange interactions I've been feeling :)

aaa I just figured out how the weird behavior I was seeing works!!! I realized that yes, I could solve it without a map, but making a map would be FUN. and looking at the spatial relationships of all of the features cemented it in my head!

It’s funny I spent ages remapping and I agree solving the 1st part without a map is very doable. My map did not really help me I the way I thought it was going to. I am pleased to have mapped it though because as the maze progresses knowing where other stuff I have been to is may be very useful in the long run.
