That was such a great answer that I believed it without even trying it out.

You may be totally correct, but unfortunately my NEWS puzzle didn't behave any differently when I tried your suggestion.

That's strange,... I got mine buried somewhere in a box of puzzles. If I've time I'll try to find it and come back to you. :)

Well, you learn something new everyday, if you're lucky. After hearing how others solve the NEWS I've realized I didn't fully understand this puzzle. It seems that I was more lucky than good when I solve it my way. If anything, my NEWS may be a bit defective since I can open it my way. The right solution is more elegant and works every time. Thanks to those that responded to my question.

I didn't even know that there were 64 of them.

This website tries to sell all of them. You can see if there are any on here that are not on your list.

I actually got these from PuzzleMaster. They had 100 sets specially made in gold for IPP35 and sold the leftovers on their site. They sold out very quickly (I don't know how many sets they had left). They should have the standard silver colored ones soon, and at a much cheaper price. For the standard ones, each piece is sold separately but PuzzleMaster may offer a discounted package for all 6.

If you can't wait, you can try ordering them from Amazon. There are a few sellers in Japan selling them on there but with the long shipping times (and higher prices) you would probably be better off just waiting for PuzzleMaster.

I'll never understand the business logic of discontinuing a product while you still have significant demand.
If people want to pay more for gold chess puzzles, why would you risk alienating some of your customers by saying you can't have it, unless of course you only expect fewer than 100 customers.

In this case it is not like they have discontinued them. Hanayama is still making the puzzles. PuzzleMaster arranged to have 100 sets specially made for IPP35 (these are all laser etched "IPP35" on their bottoms) and intended to sell them all during the event. They didn't sell out during IPP35 so they sold the few remaining left over sets on their site (for a higher price than what they were selling for during IPP35).

These were really only intended for those who were invited to IPP35.
