Something for the WAGS

Post by lvassa »

As she’s so good at tolerating my puzzling, I figure I’d make her a puzzle of her own. After a bit of experimenting with Sketchup and Shapeways, I created a cast silver, functioning burr puzzle pendant. It turned out pretty reasonable if I do say so myself! If you look closely, I've even hallmarked it "LV12".

That is so cute!
With 1 mm voxels, it is practical to (dis)assemble, or does that require tools?
Can you provide a link to your shapeways hop and have this one for sale?

Absolutely it can be disassembled and reassembled without tools. The real challenge was to ensure that it didn’t fall apart when being worn (a function of which burr the chain hangs off).

As for the Shapeways link, I haven’t made it public as it is reasonably expensive to do in silver and required a bit of work to file/polish because the silver casting isn’t precise. That said it works awesome when made in detailed plastic although is a little light to hang off a chain. PM me is you’re really keen and I’ll send you the Shapeways stuff.

That really is absolutely awesome, especially considering the scale!

Hopefully now that I've had quite a few pointers from some forum members I'll be trying my hand at 3D-printing some interesting designs. Doing a proper burr necklace is definitely at the top of my list, although I may go for stainless steel at first since it's less than half the price of silver.
