Expensive Puzzles

Post by maztec »

For me, this is more of a dream list. For others, this may be more of a buy now list.

That, and I am curious what ridiculously expensive puzzles do exist and whether they warrant their price tags or not.

There are, of course, the Berrocal puzzles. But, in the world of expensive puzzles, I have to say some of my favorites are the Smartegges. Beautiful works of craftsmanship, difficult puzzles, and some of them are collaborative, and prices range from acceptable to insane. They are made almost exclusively by custom order too.

Then there are the Stickman puzzle boxes, which resale for ridiculous prices. And many others, which I am sure others can fill us in on here.

Maybe we could start a ranking of puzzles by price, to satisfy curiosity.

Else I could just ramble more. :)

I have to say that if funds weren't an issue I would have to order one of GarE Maxton's designs.

Ah, right, the guy who did the "INTIMIDATOR"

I suspect the INTIMIDATOR would cost a heck of a lot more than the Conundrum III ($8495) at that.

I'm sure you're right! But currently only the one copy exists in his personal collection anyway, and that's likely how it will stay given the complexity (and expense) of the design.

As another thing, if I had the cash then I'd definitely be wanting one of Kagen's Pipe Organ Desks:

[DREAM mode]
...one of Phil Tomlinson's Puzzle Cabinets would be a nice way to display a collection of Stickman boxes ... and Checkmate has been a personal goal for a while now...

I have seen nothing on how those puzzle cabinets work. Any details anywhere?

Omg, that desk. Whoa! And I have to admit Checkmate is on my list of must haves too.
