If you're new to boxes then I'd suggest starting with a decent traditional puzzle box that you can buy on eBay for around £30-£40. It'll give you an idea of how these sorts of things work.

If you want to go for something a bit more tricky then I'd go for anything in the Karakuri series of trick boxes. Start with either the Small Box series or the Karakuri Cube series if you're after something that isn't too intimidating or expensive.

I know a couple of you guys here have ordered one of Wil's new Aluminium Washer Cylinder... has anyone got anywhere with it yet? Mine rattles a lot but that's about all I can get it to do. I get the feeling it's one of super simple but ever so sneaky mechanisms.

Not looking for clues at all... just curious of peoples progress :)

Wil loaned me his prototype Washer Cylinder at the Camden meet on the Wednesday, and I returned it to him on the Saturday.

I spent hours trying to solve it during that time, using every puzzle trick I know.

I made quite literally no progress on it whatsoever.

I like it! :D
