I have an Isis. It is a very nice puzzle to look at but once you get the first step to open it, its not really a puzzle at all, just a follow the motions kind of thing. I was kind of dissapointed actually.

I got it several years ago and once I opended it it was boxed back up and sits on a shelf.

If you can find somebody willing to loan you these I would suggest try before you buy since they are more of a solve it once and there is little point in trying it again kind of puzzle.

So here's the short version of what my reviews will say. Remember I got the Isis when it was first released, and was among the first to open one...

Isis: Nice solid puzzle. Looks great as a display piece. Internal mechanism flawed. You should not need 11 cryptic clues to open it. While I didn't object at the time, in hindsight, I don't like that I have to send a lot of personal information to get the required clues to be able to open the puzzle. Really low quality packing, which given the price of the puzzle is poor.

Ramisis: Nice solid puzzle. Looks great as a display piece. Terrible production problems lead to a less than satisfying puzzle. Same issue with the clues, especially since a large part of this puzzle does not work (poor electronics leading to part of the puzzle being abandoned. Same packing as the Isis just with a hole cut in the inside top of the box to fit the pyramid shape.

All ISIS puzzles are visually pretty. thats really their selling point.

Af for the isis it took me 6 hours to solve the clues by hand, and 65 minutes to crack the ball. most of that involved a beating the crap out of a phonebook until my hand was far beyond aching (if you own one, maybe you know what i mean).

Anyway, i found The Ramisis quite maddening. it took A LOT to map that sucker. RevoMaster did an amazing job designing it and is why I'm such a hardcore RevoMaze fan.

The problem with every SonicWarp puzzle produced today is that production is rushed, the engineering firm is less than optimal, and there appears to be very little QC, if any.

Here's a question for any other Isis owners out there;

Is there any way in which I can make the first step of solving the Isis any easier?

It's far too difficult for my liking.

Bucket method is like an auto solver. so i hear at least. once i learned how my maze worked, it was far faster to open it the "long" way.

Bucket method?

I'm not after a faster overall solve speed, I just want the initial resistance to somehow be significantly reduced.

Sure, you can increase the initial distance with a spacer.

i had that problem and i solved it with 1 or 2 carefully shaped and placed layers of paper

I have not used a isis before, but I want to keep well away. I hate the idea of the clues.
