Alas, our young friend left us some time ago.

Not sure how anyone thinks a published magazine is in the public domain though.

Re: Purple Lottery 2 - Rounds 1 to 9

EAB, ok now I see what you mean about random and unique. I do recall Joe saying something about picking numbers for people if needed way back at the beginning. I think random is good, I'm less sure that unique is just as good. In any case most would agree that one set of numbers is as good as anoth...

Re: Purple Lottery 2 - Rounds 1 to 9

For 17.5% to result in a whole number, there must have been 40 people in the last round. That leaves 33 in the competition.

Re: Purple Lotto Rounds 30-39

Eliminating the bonus ball is not going to make a substantial difference. Only need one easy rule to make a difference: Any number that has been drawn more than 2 times consecutively or 5 times in total during the current selection period is removed from consideration. If you wanted things to last a...

Re: Purple Lotto Rounds 30-39

There's a rather vocal group of people who would get upset if rules were changed. Per the intent behind the rules as described at one point, no Purple mazes will be sent out until all of them are allocated. It is quite possible that the current "competition" could literally last forever. ...

Re: Purple Lotto Rounds 20-29

Maybe, but I also wanted you to run the statistics and share them because I am curious what the numbers come out to. Also, you keep assuming a random distribution of number choices among the entrants. Reweight your odds if you get rid of the random distribution. As it is, if someone picked the numbe...

Re: Purple Lotto Rounds 20-29

How can we figure those odds if we don't know how many are playing and how many numbers they have ? Odds of the pool versus odds in general. How large of a pool do you need to have to guarantee someone should be eliminated in a specific drawing versus given a smaller pool what do those odds become....

Re: Purple Lotto Rounds 20-29

Stop looking at it as the odds of a single person staying in, and instead look at it as the odds of one person in the group being eliminated each week.

Re: Purple Lotto Rounds 20-29

Ah, there is where you are wrong. Every week every person remaining, with the right number of numbers, has a 93% chance of making it to the next week. That means for 7 out of every 100 draws you might be booted. Now, here is the thing, if you want to say what percentage chance of making it X more we...

Re: Purple Lotto Rounds 20-29

True, it sounds a bit weird, but I'll be back in when the numbers that finish this first lottery come up. Maybe I'm misinterpreting quantum cows statistics, but with 1 in 7 odds I'd think we'd have finished this lottery already. Yes, you are. Plus those stats were based on a presumption of how many...
