British Television --

Post by maztec »

For some odd reason, I prefer British television over most of the .. whatever you would call it .. made in the United States. And think it is usually a travesty when a good British show is made into a U.S. sitcom, ugh.

So, what British shows do people like to watch or used to watch? What is good and what is horrible?

Some of my favorites:

The IT Crowd
Doc Martin
All Creatures Great & Small
Dr. Who (both old and new, but there were a few bad doctors back in the day)
Vicar of Dibley
Monarch of the Glen (first two seasons, then huh?)
Coupling (the U.S. version was horrid)
The Prisoner (original version)
Ballykissangel (first two seasons, maybe three, then huh?)

and others I can't recall at the moment. And always looking for more, as my wife totally digs this stuff :).

Father Ted :lol: Love that series!
The IT-Crowd is also good, haven't seen any of all those others.
If your into IT-Crowd and know your stuff, you might like The Big Bang Theory. ;)

Some really good choices here!

I have to echo Dr. Who, Black Adder, IT Crowd. Mighty Boosh is off the wall but great at times too. Original Whose Line Is It Anyway? is amazing as well.

I have to agree with pretty much all of the shows mentioned so far... but it's the boosh that's caused me to write this... who can't love a show which includes lines such as:
Naboo wrote:Little tip about hash cakes: Just start off with one first, wait about an hour, see how you feel. Don't eat fifteen in one go, because you *will* see the devil and he'll try and rip your heart out through your kneecaps.

There are some good US comedies I have enjoyed in recent years;
Louie, Bored to death, hung, Eastbound and down, curb your enthusiasm, flight of the conchords.

Some other British comedies (can't believe I missed these in the first list);
Boosh (definitely), Yes minister, Men behaving badly, Bottom, Porridge, Reggie Perrin, Are you being served, Monty Python (of course), French and saunders, Only fools and horses, the royal family, Kenny everett's video show, Steptoe and son (you dirty...dirty... dirty old man!) :lol:
