Special Editions, what did/does it mean?
With the Revomaze Oragne Design Competition at hand, I was looking for a logical place on the forum to post about it.
The same goes for the Revomaze Red Extreme which is currently being shiped around the globe.
The website homepage lists the Revomazes Red, Orange, and Titanium under the header "Special Editions 250". Therefore this "Special Editions" forum section looks appropriate to discuss the Red and Orange Extreme Revomazes.
But there are several other posts in this section, why?
The answer is in the history of the Revomaze adventure,...
In March 2009, when the Revomaze Adventure was about to start, the first 12 Blue Revomazes were auctioned on E-Bay, and those Revomazes were marked by the letters "SE" engraved with the serial number.
The same was later done for the first 12 Green Revomazes.
The numbers 1 to 12 Bronze and Silver Revomazes were never auctioned on E-Bay, but they did get the "SE" marking as well. This makes them the first/oldest "Special Edition" Revomazes.
In May 2009,
a set of goodlooking coins were produced to accompany the 12 "Special Edition" Revomazes of each of the 5 competition colors.
The same coins were produced for all 20 Revomazes of the 3 "Limited Edition" colors (black, red, yellow).
All of those coins have the text "Special Edition 2009" on them.
The 20 Black coins were actually shipped with the Black Revomazes, including a wooden stand with a matching recess to hold & display the coin nicely. This makes them Special, but not really "Special Edition" Revomazes.
(Hmm, now I wonder where the 20 red coins will ever go...)
To make things a bit more confusing, the plastic Revomaze range was introduced (in September 2009) in under the name "Extreme Edition". But the name of the plastic Revomazes changed to "Obsession" when more future plans were reveiled on the website in March 2010.
From then on the name "Extreme" refers to metal Revomazes (either the competition set, Special Edition, or Limited Edition)
The name "Special Edition 250" refers to three specific Metal Revomazes (red, orange, titanium) that are not part of the competition set, and of which only 250 will be produced.
The name "Limited Edition 20" also refers to three specific Metal Revomazes (Black, Yellow, Handmade) that are not part of the competition set, but only 20 of each are to be (or were) produced.
At this moment there is a dedicated forum section about the Limited Edition Revomazes, having subforums named Black, Yellow, and Red.
The "Limited Edition Handmade" Revomaze was originally named "Limited Edition Red" (until the Plastic Red came out), and it is supposed to be the most difficult Revomaze ever to be produced, by the hand of Chris himself.
Now may you wonder what the point of this post is?
It's basically just me mentioning this is a good place to post about the "Special Edition Extreme Red" and the "Special Edition Extreme Orange" (or for now about its design competition).
And it's a record of my ramblings about the (sometimes confusing) history of the Revomaze Adventure so far.
