Based on my current design, I am planning on offering 2 levels of stands. "The basic" which will hold your puzzle much like the current wood stand, and "The Enthusiast" which will allow the user to swap out the current cradle for the body & shaft cradle (Thanks Mark) as desired, has an internal holder for the shelf, a box for "internals" (thanks Oli), and a holder for your certificate that "pops out" for display. Additionally, the base will have a bottom that hides everything mentioned above and has a "trick" opening (thanks Jay) and 9mm rubber feet (Thanks Dominick). These stands will have internal magnets which makes combining stands for display a "snap" (thanks AFKAN)!

The Basic would be have the ability to be upgraded to The Enthusiast at any time.

I'm currently awaiting a quote to get the risers laser cut. My contact runs a couple star wars forums (RebelScum.com & TheDentedHelmet.com) and is at Celebration VI all week so I wont have a price until next week. Depending on what its going to cost me for 200ish pieces cut depends on what I offer. I'm anticipating that I'll go with The Basic with choice of cradle and option for upgrade. But I have to warn, the upgrade is pricey as it is complex.

I was wanting to add a bottom (what i call a cover or lid) and feet, but to be honest I didn't account for the lid, feet, or cradle in acrylic. the cradle was planned to be molded at the time i laid the carbon and was going to be resin. creating a mold and making resin cradles may still happen though...

By the way, after discovering that a carbon fiber panel I was having flex issues with on my car, I decided to get some really nice carbon.



The above half is rather standard, commercial grade carbon 2x2 twill weave. This is usually what you see hoods and other accessories or aftermarket parts made of.

The lower half is aerospace (highest) grade with 51,000 (very high density) threads per inch. Some of the nicest stuff out there while still respecting cost. This is what we ordered.

You think we really have to worry about flex issues on such a small piece?

small, yes. so there shouldnt be a problem.

but these are heavy! plus whenever something could go wrong and we wish it wouldnt, it shall.

The part of my car that i mentioned earlier is 18cm at its widest, has two complex curves that should help brace it, and it still deforms under light pressure.

I think the one in the picture is an elise, it might be an exige though. i dont remember which. the picture above isnt actually my car. i didn't have any close ups. heres one with the curves that I mentioned earlier.

I grew up on 'stangs myself. the first car i bought was the first car to have the 4.6 (before the mustang), its a beast! Loti have great fuel economy though, so i couldnt pass it up!
