I have it all memorized by "up, right, up, right, up, right, down, right, left, up, left, right, down" etc etc. (uh.. that's in no particular order by the way)

For the first couple hours my brain kept mixing them up when the shaft was on the opposite side of the beginning track, I grew accustomed to it.

I feel mapping it to me would be useless as I have the entire maze up to the point I'm at in my head. I even have the trap routes down including which trap leads where (minus the ones I never found)

I remember 'up, down, left, right, a start' was the level select cheat for Sonic the Hedgehog on the Mega Drive. Am I right in remembering that E Honda and Blanka had one button combos (C button pressed repeatedly on the Mega Drive) for the 100 hand slap and electrecution attack in Street fighter 2?

Well, the sad truth is (get the violins out) I relied on borrowing/swapping games from friends in the early 90's between the ages of 7 - 10 as my parents just didn't realise how deadly important it was for me to have computer games. Can you believe it? I was convinced at the time that they actually enjoyed watching the News, paying bills and arguing - you know...adult stuff.

The motto in our house during the recession of the early 90's was "buy to live not live to buy". This meant that Birthday and Christmas presents more often than not seemed to be things that I needed rather than the things I wanted - mostly clothes. And it almost paid off once at the age of 7 when I received a pair of British Knights as a birthday present. Sweet! The Hi-tecs went in the bin that day. However, this small victory was short lived. That was the year that everyone started to wear Reebok pumps and I was the dick with the British Knights. And for one minute I thought I was a dude - always a couple of steps behind.

Back to Street Fighter 2 though...Our local Bowling alley had a mini arcade. So on the rare occasion that we would go bowling and when I was bored of playing gutter ball it was time for a bit of Street Fighter 2 and Mortal Kombat. After that I managed to 'permanently borrow' a caseless copy of Street fighter 2 from someone (without them knowing) who had rented it from Ritz video or Blockbusters.

That said though, I was always grateful for any gifts I received, no matter how in or out of fashion they were. I loved my childhood and upbringing and I wouldn't change a thing. The best Christmas ever was when I got a Mega Drive with Altered Beast and Dynamite Duke . No matter how turd they are now, they were awesome back then.

Altered beast! Sweet! And hey there was nothing wrong with SF2! It was one of the awesome games back in the day.

yea, it was def 2 that i always hated. 1 was the best and 3 was ok. 4 was a bit overdone and they changed the gameplay wayyy too much
